Olive joins the reindeer club.

I wanted to love it. I really and truly did. But even the story of a dog who thinks she is "the other reindeer" because her name is Olive.....it's not enough for me to get over the really horrible text. Seriously. It's rough. Too much of it. ( )

This is a book about a dog named Olive who thinks she's a reindeer. She takes a trip to the North Pole to do what she thinks is her job.

Review: The story of a dog who thinks she is a reindeer and wants to help Santa. Santa is surprised by her but her special talents end up helping them supply gifts. The story is a folktale because it is a modern spin on the story of Rudolf. ( )

This is a cute book for the Christmas season. My teacher used it as a mode to introduce the characteristics that animals have and their uses. The kids were to write a story of their own where an animal uses it's abilities to help Santa. The children loved the book and the activity. It is a great provocation for literacy work. ( )

My edition is a basic Scholastic. Maybe the one with endpapers and pop-ups would be better. But for me it felt clumsy, and the illustrations are definitely more appealing to some people than others. Read Eva's review for more good information that I agree with. ( )

We all know the part in the song, "And all of the other Reindeer", but how similar does that sound to "Olive the other reindeer"? Very similar! Which is why Olive was so terribly confused. She didn't think she was a reindeer, she thought she was a dog! But she assumes that instead she is a reindeer. So, she prepares to be a reindeer, going to the North Pole to work with the other Reindeers. Although the other reindeers were surprised that she wanted to join their team, in the end, she was exactly what they needed.

This is an overall good book. This book is about a dog who thinks he is a reindeer and want to go with Santa. It shows different things dealing with imagination. ( )

O enjoyed reading this when we had it at Christmas from the library so for $1 at Goodwill I couldn't go wrong! ( )

This was one of my favorite books as a child. I love this book because it is about a dog named Olive that thinks he is a reindeer, He does not understand why he cannot fly like the other reindeer. At first Olive is teased, but by the end of the book all of the reindeer accept him and he becomes a part of Santa Claus' sleigh ride. This book teaches the lesson that it is okay to be different and unique and that everyone is special in their own way. ( )

I liked this book for two reasons. One reason I liked this book was for the main character Olive. Although he's a dog, I feel like children can relate to his character. Olive is obviously not like the other reindeer, but he has things about him that make him just as special. I think that children can relate because they may not be like their friends or classmates, but they are just as special. Another reason I liked this book was for the illustrations. I really liked how the pictures aren't drawn like typical drawings. The characters in this book are all odd looking, but really cute at the same time. I think it adds a little extra element to the book. Overall, I think that message of this story is that everyone has something great to offer and being different isn't a bad thing. ( )

This book is such a cute book. It is another take on "Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer." If children like some type of variation of books, I think this is a good holiday book for some students to read.

This is a really cute story of mistaken self-identity. Olive hears "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" playing on the radio, mishears the lyric "All of the other reindeer..." for "Olive, the other reindeer..." and decides she's a reindeer instead of a dog. She goes to the North Pole to try and help Santa pull his sleigh. One of my favorite Christmas stories. ( )

This pop-up book is fun for children because it's fun to look at and easy to read!

Review: This book is a good example of fantasy because the story includes talking and flying reindeer and dogs. The story is believable but would not occur in reality. In this story a dog, Olive, believes he is a reindeer and travels to the North Pole to fly with Santa on Christmas Eve. He ends up saving Christmas because he can perform things reindeer cannot, such as fetching falling flutes.
Media: This book is a good example of mixed media because the pages contain various art mediums. All the elements compliment each other and create a great illustration on each page. ( )

This is a story about a dog that hears the song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer the wrong way. Instead of hearing “all of the other reindeer”, she hears “Olive the other reindeer” and sets out on a quest to the North Pole to help Santa deliver the presents. She ends up saving the presents for Santa and instead of Rudolph finding their way home; she is the one that smells their way home.

I feel that the author did a good job of showing another view of the classic song/story. This book also shows that no matter what your size, that if you believe in yourself that you can do anything.

After reading this book in a group circle, I would have the children write a short story about themselves being the main character in a book. I would then have them get their art supplies out and draw pictures to go with their story. We would then assemble the parts together to make a book.

Thinking that "all of the other reindeer" she hears people singing about include her, Olive the dog reports to the North Pole to help Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.

This book is great! I love Olive and I love the pictures in it ( )
